The Undeniable Benefits

Increased Physical Activity

Active uniforms make it easier for students to engage in physical activity. This may be by actively travelling to and from school or engaging in physical activity at recess and lunch. Removing a barrier from physical activity makes it easier for students to embrace a healthy and active lifestyle.

Improved Academic Results

Many studies show that physical activity has immediate and long-term benefits on academic performance. Promoting and encouraging physical activity in school will, in turn, set students up for success in the classroom.

A Gender-Neutral Uniform Option

Typical active school uniform garments such as polos, track pants and tees are fluid uniforms that can be worn by any student regardless of their pronouns. Having these products available to everyone creates and helps promote an inclusive environment within the school.

Low-Cost

Making the change to active school uniforms saves on average $167 per primary and $363 per secondary student on uniform expenses. These uniforms are still made with high-quality material, just come with a better price point than traditional uniform items such as blazers, kilts and trousers.

Increased Comfort

Traditional uniforms are known to be rather uncomfortable and restrict wearers from taking part in the fun side of school. The argument is why don’t school’s dress appropriately for what they do in the day. Take a tradie for example; they wear hi-vis, durable and flexible clothing to get the best out of themselves each day. Schools need a similar outlook and adopt uniforms that can go from the classroom to the monkey bars all in one day.

ACTIVE SCHOOL UNIFORMS

What are active school uniforms?

Active school uniforms incorporate clothing that allows wearers to take part in physical activity comfortably. This will enable students to go from learning in the classroom to playing at recess and lunchtime with ease.

An active school uniform range can include track pants, polo shirts, leggings and rugby jumpers etc. When done correctly, these uniforms look very smart and promote healthy lifestyles.

The NATIONWIDE issue

Guidelines, set by the World Health Organisation (WHO), recommends at least one hour’s worth of vigorous physical activity every day to make sure children stay fit, happy and healthy.

At present, studies conducted by the WHO show that approximately 89% of Australian children are not hitting this minimum exercise requirement. This disappointing statistic requires immediate attention from the school communities to help and encourage Australian students to hit their physical activity goals. Which, in turn, will help improve their overall well-being.

The Solution

The solution is easy, encourage more physical activity in schools by making active travel and recess and lunch exercise through play as accessible as possible.

The Barrier

Traditional uniforms are restrictive and make it challenging to participate in active travel and physical activity. Introducing Active School Uniforms removes this barrier for students allowing physical activity easy in their uniform.

A Supported Change

The school community very much supports the addition of active school uniforms. Understanding the significant benefits of wearing active school uniforms has resulted in a shift of mindset for students, teachers and parents alike. In years to come, we will see more and more schools updating their uniform to progress and set their future curriculum up for success.
